Can you do it yourself. The answer is yes and no. Depending on what you are planning to do there will be things you can do and there will be things you can't do.
I'll list what I can and can't don to give you an idea what is required. Now keep in mind I have been doing this for 11 years it's now 2018 as I write this and I am still learning. I've just started learning a new accounting package called Xero which makes my life a lot easier and is well worth the effort. This way I only need an accountant for the end of year tax lodging.

- Website design

- Shopping cart creation using Open Source
- Cpanel and hosting modifications
- Uploading of all content and images
- Check all security of site and update when necessary
Website - what I don't do
- Host site on my own servers
SEO - page 1 ranking - what I do;
- Create all website images
- Create all website written content
- Structure websites for best SEO rankings
- Modify websites weekly for continued page 1 hits
- Build multiple websites and link for SEO network
Website Shopping Carts - what I do;
- Build shopping carts using Open Source code
- Add all products
- Modify all products
- Set up payment gateways
- Write all content
- Check all security of site and update when necessary
Marketing - what I do;
- Create all web based marketing content
- Create all technical documents for web and print
- Create all operating instructions for products
- Create all specifications for products
Computers and Printers (Apple MAC) - what I do;
- All email creation and maintenance
- All program uploading and updates
- Formatting and rebuilding when needed
- Networking systen through out house
- Troubleshooting when it all goes south
The list goes on and on and the point is that with a home based business you need to take control and try and do most of the tasks. I have been lucky in that I had a solid basis in computers, design, writing and marketing. You will have skills that others don't have so make sure you utilise them.
Try and learn as much as you can and then pay someone for skills you don't have until you learn them.
